I always tell people, “A good education system won’t retain its quality without any critical review or evaluation. EWhether for education or business, modern Japan has applied the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle as a principle management method, and this has been a key factor in Japan’s rapid growth. However, in this new era, we must re-examine current situations and systems, particularly in our institutes of learning. Traditional education hasn’t caught up with what the current world demands from individuals: IT literacy, communication / interpersonal skills, and other proficiencies with intangible values that the current system has failed to efficiently provide and / or measure.
CRET is proactive on this very issue and is spearheading the advancement of educational testing and analysis - for that, I am excited to be a member of the board. We are committed to improving the state of education in Japan, giving each child the motivation to learn, and providing them with what they truly need to become global citizens.

The effect of the educational revolution of the 1990s still reverberates throughout the world and continues to accelerate. Hence, there is a global call for the revision of the entire educational system, the establishment of a new curriculum, and the development of efficient testing systems and technology. The Key Competencies defined by OECD encompass these very principles. As the international community moves in this direction, it is vital that CRET endeavors to improve our own scholastic system while adding the voice of Japan and the voice of Asia to these international discussions. At the same time, we are committed to creating an environment in which children grow up to become responsible adults in our society through education.

We are convinced that educational testing, consisting of the three components of testing, evaluation and assessment, is a field which should be thoroughly researched. In view of the new skills and abilities necessary in the 21st century, CRET is motivated to advance comprehensive research regarding testing and assessment through research of new test items, test evaluation and assessment and furthermore, test foundation development utilizing ICT. We hope to contribute in the role of auditor to the realization of this aspiration.
